It deserves points for not just throwing together lukewarm variations on the originals, though, but trying to come up with something different, as Drugstore does on its Velvet Underground -like version of "Old Shoes. Dec 31,  · Tim Buckley’s “Martha” had been recorded back when Waits was just starting out and Buckley was the living legend. There are plenty of surprises here. The Tindersticks are expected to do right by “Mockin Bird,” but the brilliance of Drugstore’s interpretation of “Old Shoes” is a mavelvcerebordrelanrad.infoinfoed on: January 01,

A few songs don't quite measure up, such as Downtown by Alex Chilton, but as a whole, the range of artists and approaches illuminates Tom's strengths as a songwriter: even if not every song is a gem, the songcraft of his music still shows through/5(13).

Nov 24,  · I was interested to hear Alex Chilton do a Waits song, but it was lame. The only two songs that made this worth it for me were "Old Shoes" by Drugstore and "I hope that I don't fall in love with you" by 10, maniacs. I am also a huge Violent Femmes fan but their version of "Step Right Up" is grating to say the least/5(13).
